Perspective Shift - Final Year Individual Project

Individual University Project

Perspective Shift was my final year research project, exploring how transitions between 3D and 2D affect level design and the overall player experience.

I was inspired by a similar project I saw during my first year at the University of Greenwich and decided to put my own spin on it. The goal was to implement automated transitions between 3D and 2D instead of relying on a button press, creating a seamless and immersion experience.

The level design was informed by extensive research into the area, including GDC talks, Steve Lee's YouTube channel, academic papers, books, and the online level design book, and games I had access to. These resources helped me shape the design philosophy for Perspective Shift.

To evaluate the experience, I adopted a mixed-methods approach, comprising of both quantitative and qualitative data. This allowed me to gauge how engaged testers were throughout each run of the level, and understand which transition type they preferred.

As a result, this project received a First-Class grade.
